3 Reasons Why Christian Churches In America Should Be
Thankful for Halloween

On www.statista.com, the data show that 64% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween.  Christian Churches have two opportunities during this season.  Work diligently to have fun with the 36% that do nothing around Halloween and create an attractive fun, alternate, Christ-focused path for the 64% that do.

When Halloween comes around, many Christians just look the other way.  Others, get upset. Why? Many Christians believe Halloween is a time of year when satan worship and human sacrifices are more frequent.   According to many Christians, these types of occurrences indicate that this season is controlled by satan and his followers.  So, why should Christian churches and Christians be thankful for this season?    I’ll answer that in a moment.
Christian churches have Biblically-based responsibilities to the public at large and to their members.  The Bible tells Christians that they should GO and Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ into all the world.  That is a responsibility to the public at large where the preaching can be anything from:

  • living a life that clearly shows unconditional loving care for all people or
  • actually sharing the good news of the gospel with an invitation to try the Christian way.
For their members, the church is to feed their flock (members) – basically reminding them that God is to be Supreme (the most important thing/person) in their lives.

Christians say that they are happy to do any of this because Christ loved all people and died to make sure they would be forgiven of their sins and be able to live forever with God in heaven.  When Christians fail to live as they should, but are genuinely trying, God’s loving grace through the blood of Christ takes over and washes their sins away from God’s sight. This makes them pure and free of sin -- instantly forgiven and worthy of going to live in heaven.  In fact, Christians say that this grace is so awesome, they can’t even earn it.  It is freely given -- just to be accepted.  Wow!!!

So, given this background, here are 3 great reasons why Christian churches should be happy with Halloween:

1. It’s easy to Go and Preach:  So many kids, teens and parents are knocking on your door so you can obey the command to lovingly Preach the gospel of the love of Jesus Christ (please give them some gospel candy, too). In this case, the GOING is just to your front door. . .Nice.
 2. It’s another reason to feed the flock: A time to review the awesome love story that Christianity is all about and why this God deserves to be the only leader of their lives - to put God first.
 3. It’s a time to practice Christian love – regardless of their beliefs, race, ethnicity, gender or sexual preference -- God commands Christians to love sinners, just as Christ does.  It's only the sin He doesn't like.
So, Christians:  Stop being indifferent - or even worse - with your Halloweeners.
Love them and let them know it.  Christ does, through you.
It’s the most awesome reason to be thankful.
